Slowing it down for the holidays.

by Melissa on December 12, 2012

I’m finally getting a few minutes to sit down!

Over the past couple of days, I’ve gotten pretty much the remainder of all my shopping done, my meal planning done, all the laundry caught up, and (I kid you not) 6 totes of wrapping paper, boxes, and bags gone through. I made it a point to drag everything upstairs and sort through it, because my husband was, I’m pretty sure, ready to smack me. Haha. When you have kids, you tend to accumulate a million bags and bows and goodies, right? (Or is it just a hoarding problem?) My mother-in-law made out like a bandit, too…I gave her almost half of my stash! After getting all of that “extra” stuff done, we got some grocery shopping, pantry cleaning, and fridge purging done just in time for Madelyn to start getting sick all over the kitchen. Three times in less than an hour…and to make matters worse, Hannah started about 45 minutes into Maddie’s mess. Since then, I’ve bathed them three times, washed clothes, cleaned up messes, and all the other fun stuff that comes with that.

And I’m just now sitting down.

Wait. I think I hear one of them.

(30 minutes later. Yep, it was one of the girls. Poor things. And I think I’m feeling it coming on…or is that just sympathy pains?)

Anyways, I wanted to take a second to do some catching up. I know I posted a pretty heavy post on Thursday, and I’m catching up on comments and replies, but I wanted to thank every single one of you for being so supportive of me. I feel like I’m a strong, wise woman and 90% of the time I’m a positive person, but there are days when it just hits me and having you all in my corner makes everything so much easier.

I’ve, admittedly, been stuck in quite the rut lately. My friend Lisa posted about how getting back into workouts seems like a chore these days, and for me, that’s nothing short of the truth. Last week, I got three workouts in, and it felt great to start getting back in there…but then I did some traveling to see my sister and that got all messed up. Haha. This time of year is so hard in terms of getting back in the swing of things. If you’re already busting some serious booty, it’s so much more simple. If you’re trying to get back on a schedule, yeah right!

This post was started last night, can you believe it? Haha.

This brings up the fact that I’ve been posting so sporadically recently. I’m not going to lie, though…I’ve been enjoying being a bit more unplugged this holiday season. I’ve enjoyed more time with my kids, more time with family, and more time just being.

So I apologize now if I’m quiet, somewhat (or not-so-somewhat) emotional, haha, or a terrible blog reader. I’ll be around. ;) We’re off to bake Christmas cookies. :)

So agree! I am usually over-scheduled and the holidays get even worse. This year I’m trying to leave at least one weekend day completely empty to just relax, catch up on tv, etc.

I totally get this – which I why I decided to “pause” for the month of December. I am missing my blog but loving my unplugged time – and looking forward to coming back refreshed on 1/1. Enjoy your backing and your family! xo

Love your site.. love the theme!

It’s so nice to be unplugged sometimes; the social world gets so overwhelming and it’s important ti focus on the things that mean the most!

Hope you have a great holiday season!!

First, no need to apologize for unplugging and being with your family and taking care of each other, especially around the holidays. I’ve been a terrible blog reader and comment responder lately. There’s just too much going on and I think that we all have to cut ourselves some slack sometimes, you know? You have A LOT going on – it’s not a small thing. And with sick kiddos on top of it? Have a wonderful holidays and enjoy. xoxo
